10 eCourse Ideas for Mommy Bloggers

Mommy Bloggers

I talk to people all the time about the importance of creating an ecourse for their blogs.  It’s actually the main focus of this blog.

Most people are excited about what the prospects of an online course could do for their traffic, authority, community, and income.

The largest resistance comes from people who are unsure of, not only how to start but, what to teach.  I get comments like, “I’m a SAHM/WAHM blogger,” or “but I’m a travel blogger” and “I’m a mommy blogger, what can I possibly teach?”

I always remind them that their blog is just like a micro-classroom where they are teaching their audience the ins and outs of the blogger’s passion.

An ecourse is pretty much the same but uses a wide variety of media to illustrate their content, such as video, audio, Power Point slides, graphics, as well as written text. It’s just encapsulated into modules instead of web posts.

I’ve decided to write a series of posts to give bloggers, in a wide area of interests, ideas they can use or build upon to create their own ecourses.

I’m going to start with Mommy Bloggers as they represent a huge segment of the groups that I’m in on Facebook.

eCourse Ideas:

  1. Crafts for kids or family – Instead of just choosing one craft, come up with a half dozen or more ideas and script out some video lessons. Keep the craft ideas in one general area like appliqué, or working with clay.
  2. Budget Travel for Family – Plan out a popular destination and how to get the most out of the vacation while spending as little as possible.
  3. Finding self love when you’re the giver – Teach other busy moms how to find the time to take care of their own emotional well being so they can be all there for their families.
  4. Balancing life between home, family, and career – Teach other moms how to reduce complicated tasks into easier tasks so they can fit more value into their limited time.
  5. Home economics – Teach other moms how to teach their children tasks they can handle such as doing the laundry, cooking easy meals, how to sew or repair clothing, and the importance of keeping a tidy living space.
  6. Fiscal responsibility – Teach moms how to make and keep to a budget, how and where to save money for emergencies, how to use coupons and save at the grocery store, or how to get out of debt by reducing or replacing costly habits.
  7. Photography – Teach how to get the most out of a point and shoot camera or a DSLR.
  8. Internet Safety – How to teach moms and their children to be safe online, how to use and monitor social media, and how to avoid predators and report bullies.
  9. How to start Homeschooling – Speaks for itself but many moms just don’t know how to take the first steps.
  10. How to become a brand ambassador – Teach other mommy bloggers how to create a press kit, how to approach brands to get free products to test and review. How to review and how and where to share the review.

Calling All Mommy Bloggers

If you’re a mommy blogger, you should copy these 10 eCourse ideas down and maybe expand upon them.  You’ve already narrowed your niche down on your blog so choose one of these ideas that closely resemble what you’re already posting about on your blog and make it the focus of your course.

If you haven’t already, you can snag my free email mini course on creating an eCourse here.  Or, if you want to just jump right in and start creating a course, I would recommend checking out Thinkific where they will help you launch your new course with all the payment gateways already in place.

If you think you have some ideas other than the ones I posted above, I’d be happy to hear about them in the comments below.

  • Sarah Poeppe

Great post! I myself had some of these same fears of starting an ecourse, although I really want to. I’m liking idea #6, as this is my niche. Now I need to find the time with two little ones. Thanks!

    • e-coursesxyz

Ooh… there’s another idea I could have listened… teaching time management for busy or overwhelmed moms.

  • We’ve taken a couple very similar. A couple of the blog groups offer them for free!

    • e-coursesxyz

That’s great.. did you notice that even though the courses were free for the user that they may have included affiliate links? That’s how bloggers can still earn by offering their courses for free, me included.

  • Great post. I am not a mommy however I frequently watch my best friends son when she has to work. I should talk to her about writing and featuring him in some of my posts

    • e-coursesxyz

That would be cool if you could somehow fit him into the niche of your own blog.

  • I love how you offer and share ideas before anyone even signs up! That is very generous. I think, that if you are blogging on ANY topic you are already an educator, already teaching, already sharing knowledge. If you are already blogging, you are already an authority! Therefore, there should be plenty to share in an ecourse! I think it is great you are inspiring others to start one up. I have to consider this myself and it is on my list, just working on other goals and projects first. 🙂

    • e-coursesxyz

My niche is in the creation of ecourses and it makes no difference what the topics of those courses are. I’m trying to be a good citizen in the blogging community and I will freely share as long as it doesn’t create a conflict with my other goals. Stay tuned, I’m preparing a whole series of ecourse ideas for many other niche topics.

      • VERY nice! I will be interested to see what comes next. Totally understand “as long as it doesn’t create a conflict with my other goals.” That makes perfect sense. I was really happy with myself to get a REAL email sign up started with 2 PDF downloads lol as long as I have been blogging there is SO much still yet to be learned! I will keep my eyes peeled on your blog! 🙂

  • KokosSecrets

well, i’m not a mom but i love to read blogs about mommies that do crafts things with their kids or how much they enjoy to travel together

    • e-coursesxyz

Obviously I’m not a mommy either but I do read a lot of mommy blogs too but ones that offer solutions to problems or share lifehacks.

  • lauruie

Ecourses are a great idea and something I should look into. I do have a few things up my sleeve that I’m good at.

    • e-coursesxyz

I think every blogger has something they can use to create an ecourse.

  • Kelly McDaniel Hartigan

This is great information. Giving bloggers ideas for eCourses is great, but you go beyond that. You give a bit of information with the idea and also provide links with more details about creating the course. I wonder if I could take some of my knowledge and some of the information I’ve presented in blog posts about grammar, editing, and writing to put together into an eCourse. You’ve mentioned you are a writer. What would you want to see in an eCourse about grammar, editing, and/or writing?

    • e-coursesxyz

I’ve read a lot of your posts lately and you have plenty of content to create a great ecourse on grammar. You could create a course on proofreading and editing, or grammar usage for non native English speakers, or even a refresher prep course for college English 101 students. I spent a few years in the Army right out of HS before going to college and even though I aced my ENG 101, I wish I had some kind of prep tool besides an old text book.

  • Nazy Nazy

Such a great information … I wanted to know about Ebooks and I got what I need 🙂 thanx for sharing 🙂

    • e-coursesxyz

      Glad to help.

  • skinandsatori

I have never heard of e-courses and had never even thought about the fact that I could teach people.. Thank you for bringing my attention to this.

    • e-coursesxyz

If you’re blogging, you’re already teaching.

  • Mars Castro

I’m definitely making a “daddy blog” when I have my first child. Seems like a lot of fun to do.

    • e-coursesxyz

If I had children I would too but a very similar niche is the Lifestyle niche. This is where most mommy blogs evolve into anyway.

      • Brandi Kennedy

I’d love to see a list of e-course topics that fit into a lifestyle category. It might be nice if you went into more detail on the process of hosting and dealing with setting up an e-course. (Not that I’m ready to jump into that just yet, but I suspect if I keep reading here long enough, I’ll get curious enough to give it the old college try.)

        • e-coursesxyz

That is definitely in my queue of topics to write about…

  • Chiara Lisbeth de Lisi

These e-courses for mummy blogging are sure great ideas!
Generally I find e-courses to be interesting, want to learn more about them!

    • e-coursesxyz

I’m sure if I put my mind to it, I could come up with a dozen or so more course ideas for mommy bloggers.

  • Ruth Earley

This is really interesting. Lots of food for thought

    • e-coursesxyz

      Thanks, hope it helps.

  • Basim Tells

Balancing life between home, family, and career, i like this one the most. i think this one is most important because if there is balance between all those things, life can be very easy.

    • e-coursesxyz

Absolutely, which is a great thing to achieve and if there were an ecourse that made it easier???

  • Shaheen Khan

These are some really great e-course ideas. I actually never gave this e-course idea any thought until I stumbled upon this post. Now you have got me thinking about more ideas to add to your list. My niche is poetry, digital collage and motivational and self-development posts…can you suggest an e-course based on that?

    • e-coursesxyz

How about teach a course on writing poetry, where to find inspiration, how to format a stanza, or go deeper into the self development by teaching the stages to live a motivational life. I live a Law of Attraction lifestyle and have developed a LOA ebook which could easily be transformed into teaching LOA. Grab my free mini course in the top tab and you will gain great knowledge in how to come up with ecourse ideas.

  • Porche Berry

    Very useful, thank you

    • e-coursesxyz

    • e-coursesxyz

By the name of your site I’d guess you’re a lifestyle blogger. If that’s the case you’ll be happy to know I have a post for lifestyle bloggers similar to this post ready to publish this coming week.

  • Emma Oxley

I’ve always wanted to do a photography course – E-courses are great because you can do them at your own speed and in your own time and you can fit them around your life!

    • e-coursesxyz

And they can help you earn while you sleep as a blogger.

  • Michelle Catallo

Very easy to understand and quick run-down of e-Courses and the why they are done. Really interested in the craft one being a single mom with three kids and two jobs I tend to rely heavily on doing stuff at home and on a very tight budget. Thanks for the listing 🙂

    • e-coursesxyz

Thank you and I hope you can put this info to use.

  • Annie Says

I’m not a mommy blogger in the slightest, but I like those ideas, mostly becuase they prove that you can make an ecourse about ANYTHING. Great post!

    • e-coursesxyz

Thank you and that was my exact point of this post.

  • sauumye

I love these ideas, Even though I’m nota mom blogger. I feel like e-courses are so good & easy.

    • e-coursesxyz

Just a primer… I have more coming for different types of bloggers… Lifestyle bloggers are up next.

  • David E

Great ideas for different courses to take and courses to give. I’m a dad blogger but it’s still a set of great ideas.

    • e-coursesxyz

You might be interested in my list of ecourse ideas for lifestyle bloggers… it will be posted on Monday.

  • I am a parent. I am also a blogger who has built up a rather successful brand over the years so that it’s my full time job. I received an email once ‘Dear Mommy Blogger’ and I cringed. Say what? What exactly IS a Mommy blogger anyway? My name is Elizabeth, and I blog. 😉 (I do happen to blog about all the topics you’ve suggested so you’re totally right, lol!)

    • e-coursesxyz

You share the same sentiment as so many other bloggers that just so happen to be mothers. Someone came up with the term “mommy blogger” and it just put all moms there equally. This is what led to the uprising of “lifestyle bloggers” as if you really need to be labeled. I guess there’s strength in numbers when you can identify with other bloggers that happen to be moms.

  • Lisa Rios

I love these ideas. I agree we can all leverage what we do, no matter what we do or how we do it.

    • e-coursesxyz

Absolutely… and as I mentioned, mommy bloggers are really lifestyle bloggers that happen to be a parent.

  • These are great ideas. I would love to have blog that teaches me some tricks and hacks about being a mommy. I guess once you have a little baby you are scared to do sth wrong. For this these courses would be perfect.

    • e-coursesxyz

I’m sure many moms feel the same way which make these ideas perfect for creating an eCourse.

  • The list is amazing. So many options and niches to choose from 🙂

    • e-coursesxyz

Thank you and there are lots of choices.
